You should not have a problem downloading 2017 from your intuit account and using the custom install option which should allow you to install 2017 beside 2018, 2019, 2020 and now 2021. If you chose express install you could not because express replaces the earlier ones and 2017 trying to override 2020 would fail
As a matter of insurance I never delete old installs. Just remember you cannot open with 2017 any company file already opened by a newer version so you are limited to working with backups created with 2017

I headed over to download.quickbooks.com and downloaded the Get Updates Now qbwebpatch program and ran that, it indicated success. Ran QB, updates, 5GB download still, and still dialup speed. I ran back over to downloads.quickbooks.com and downloaded QB Pro 2017 and ran that installer (I verified that afterwards I was running R12_17, which seems to be the latest version.) I thought it was doing the shared download somehow, but it's not. I only open the software quarterly so I'm guessing I missed some major updates that began the whole thing. In any event, I'll just leave the computer on for a few days and see if it ever gets the update done.
